The Beaver State

We left the state of Washington this morning and headed to Oregon (the Beaver State).  Our original driving directions had to be modified due to a huge rockslide on highway 101.  We were planning to go west on 101, but the road will be closed for at least four days, so we took an alternate route.  Around lunch time, we came to the Columbia River which forms the border between Washington and Oregon.  We crossed the river over the Astoria-Megler Bridge.  The bridge is a little over 4 miles long and at the one end is extremely high to allow freightliners to pass under the bridge.  This is the first time that either RoxAnne or I have been in Oregon.  The campground we arrived at is called the "Cannon Park RV Resort".  It is located near Cannon Beach, Oregon.  The beach is known for a unique geological formation called "Haystack Rock".  The rock was formed 17 million years ago when lava flowed down to the Pacific Ocean.  The rock is 235 ft high and is home to many types of birds.  In the summer months, you can even see Puffins at the rock, but we are too late in the season to see them now.
