When we departed the campground this morning, we made a right turn on the historic Route 66. We then proceeded to get on Interstate 40 east. Route 66 was actually officially removed from the United States Highway System in 1985, after it had been replaced in its entirety by segments of the Interstate Highway System, including I-40. However many parts of Route 66 still exist and while you are driving on the interstate, you can see Route 66 running parallel to the road. We drove about 360 miles today, entirely on I-40. We started in New Mexico, then drove through Lone Star state of Texas and finally ended up in the state capital of Oklahoma which is Oklahoma City. There wasn't too much to see on the trip. New Mexico was flat and barren. Texas was full of wind turbines. In fact, there are over 10,700 wind turbines currently operating in Texas to generate electricity. They were everywhere. When we went through Amarillo, TX we did see a Route 66 oddity called the Cadillac Ranch. It is a sculpture where Cadillacs are half-buried nose-first in the ground. We didn't even disconnect the truck from the camper this evening. We are planning to get up early and spend most of the day driving. We are planning on being in Arkansas tomorrow evening.
Uhggggg I want to see this!!! We are currently sitting in the camper at harpers ferry koa. RoxAnne...there are so people to watch. Compared to " people of Walmart" you are missing out I'm afraid...While laying in bed last night (our camper is situated right next to the outhouse) I heard two men, apparently strangers. Began a conversation by.. Man 1 "How you doing?" Man 2 "doing well thanks" Man 1 " Do you like baseball or football?" Man 2 seemed surprised by the question but was delighted to answer. "Well I like both but prefer football" Man 1 "You got Facebook we can be friends"..... Who knew the bathroom is a place to make friends...
