The Dusty Road

RoxAnne talked to one of the locals and they recommended taking a drive up into the mountains.  So after I took the truck to a local GMC dealer to get an oil change, we hopped in the truck and started driving toward the mountains.  The road went from a paved road, to a narrow gravel road that was cut out from the edge of a mountain. We went up and up and up, till the road finally started leveling out.  At the top was a lake and a pack of mountain goats.  We continued driving for about 3-1/2 hours.  We saw many mountain lakes, and even a bald eagle.  We didn't see any bears, but many of the trails have been closed due to the bears being overly active right now, as they eat berries.  The local news reported just a few days ago a local lady was walking her dog in a closed off area and being attacked by a bear. The trip was great, but the road made WV roads look good.  It was so bumpy and the dust was a little overwhelming.

From our campsite we can see some mountains called  "The Three Sisters".  There is a tall peak called the "Big Sister" with an elevation of 9632 ft.  Then there is a "Middle Sister" peak and a "Little Sister" peak.  Some sad news is that a group was climbing the "Middle Sister" on Wednesday and one of the men slipped and fell and died on the mountain.

  1. The middle sister is always a tough cookie. Trust me after 14 years...I should know. 🙃
